Pirates festival returns to Vallejo

By From page A4 | May 28, 2014

FAIRFIELD — Vallejo Waterfront Park will become a pirates’ outpost June 14 and 15, with the public invited.

The city will host the eighth annual Northern California Pirate Festival. Among the features are 3 acres of pirate encampments, waterfront games, a children’s area and the Siren Lagoon, which is a 1,000-gallon glass-sided tank where mermaids swim, an event press release said.

A ship-to-shore cannon battle will take place at 1 and 3 p.m. each day. The 57-foot-long Nehemiah is to sail along the waterfront with black powder muskets and canons booming, the event press release said.

Other attractions are The House of the Rising Sun, where passers-by can try their hand at cards or dice, and entertainment such as Bob Bartley and his macaw Gypsy and the rock band Boarding Party.

The festival is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Tickets are available through www.eventbrite.com or at the gate. Go to www.norcalpiratefestival.com or call 866 921-9277 for more information.
