VACAVILLE — The man who died Wednesday in a plane crash outside of Winters has been identified as Jeff Sharman.
Sharman, 65, of Vacaville, was identified Thursday by the California Highway Patrol. Officer Chris Parker said the investigation is being led jointly by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration, who were on the scene Thursday.
According to the business’ website, Sharman owned Sharman Enterprises, which specialized in shipping aircraft across the world. The address listed is in the Boulder Valley neighborhood in north Vacaville.
The website said Sharman moved to California in 1986 from South Africa. He began shipping rare parts back to South Africa before the company grew to shipping aircraft.
Sharman’s plane was seen coming down in a nosedive Wednesday afternoon by witnesses who described seeing a wing separate in flight. The aircraft crash 30 feet from Interstate 505 while the wing landed in the median of the roadway, north of the crash site.
Sharman had taken off from Yolo Airport near Davis and was headed to Nut Tree Airport in Vacaville.
