VALLEJO — Authorities say a man has been killed after getting hit by several vehicles while apparently trying to cross a busy freeway in Northern California.

The California Highway Patrol says the man was struck as he tried crossing Interstate 80 just east of the Carquinez Bridge Toll Plaza in Vallejo shortly after midnight Sunday.

The CHP says the pedestrian who was dressed in dark clothing and carrying a cane, was crossing in front of traffic from the north side of the freeway to the south side when he was hit.

Authorities say a man who was driving a Toyota Prius saw the pedestrian at the last second when he hit him. The pedestrian was then hit by several more vehicles.

The name of the pedestrian has not yet been released.

Sad for the man that was hit and for those that hit him; it will stay on their minds for the rest of their lives.

Man, did my face cringe when the first paragraph said he was hit by multiple cars. I can not imagine the fear/chaos, but my eyes rolled at the second paragraph when I read what he was wearing, and using a cane. Now I'm all kinds of confused as to why he was out there doing that. I really feel sorry for the Prius driver who saw him right before he hit him, then saw him get hit by many more cars. I couldn't handle that happening to an animal, much less a human. I hope the Prius driver is ok, after seeing all that.
