FAIRFIELD — Organizers of the Juneteenth celebration June 15 in Vallejo are taking nominations for its Silver Legacy Awards to honor those who made outstanding contributions to Solano County’s African-American community.
The event also offers entry forms for the Best of Solano County Baking Contest for anyone who wants to showcase their culinary talents, baking their own peach cobbler and pound cakes.
The Juneteenth celebration in Vallejo marks its silver anniversary this year with the theme “On Their Shoulders We Stand” and by honoring those who make significant contributions to the community. Winners will be honored at the event and their profiles will be featured in a special publication.
It is free and open to everyone and will feature free health-and-wellness screenings, information on programs, resources for families and children, food and merchandise vendors, supervised activities for children and a variety of live entertainment.
Nomination forms for the Silver Legacy Award and entry forms for the Best of Solano County Baking Contest are available at www.vallejojuneteenth.com. Applications for vendors and exhibitors are available now on the website. The deadline is March 29.
