FAIRFIELD — Breezes will be welcome May 3 at the sixth annual Lynch Canyon Open Space Kite Festival.

Lynch Canyon is at 3100 Lynch Road, near McGary Road between Vallejo and Fairfield. The festival will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m and all that participants need to bring is a kite. The festival is free, although there is a parking fee.

National Kite Month is March 29 to May 4 and Lynch Canyon’s annual festival is a legacy of its founder, Mike Rydjord, who enjoyed helping first-timers get airborne and discussing technique with more-experienced fliers, according to a press release from the Solano County Parks and the Solano Land Trust.

Rydjord died in November 2013. He was a C-5 and U.S. Airways pilot and a flight instructor at Travis Air Force Base.

People are welcome to come and just watch the kites as well. For more information on National Kite Month, visit www.nationalkitemonth.org. For more information on Lynch Canyon Open Space, call 432-0150, ext. 200, or send an email to volunteer@solanolandtrust.org.
