FAIRFIELD — Organizers of the Juneteenth Celebration in Vallejo are accepting nominations of people it could honor at the annual event with its Silver Legacy Award.
The awards will honor people for outstanding contributions and accomplishments in several categories. Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in the United States and is also known as Freedom Day.
“Juneteenth is a worldwide celebration of the sacrifices and selfless work of those who came before us as well as those who are still with us,” said Angela Jones, president of the African American Family Reunion Committee, in a press release. “We’re standing on their broad shoulders today because of their legacy and it’s only fitting that we honor those who have followed in their footsteps.”
Winners of the Silver Legacy awards will be announced at the June 15 event.
Organizers are also looking for entries to the event’s Best of Solano Baking Contest and for vendors and exhibitors who want to be at the event. Please go to www.vallejojuneteenth.com. for more information, nomination forms and application forms.
