FAIRFIELD — Highway 12 through Jameson Canyon is scheduled to be closed from 11 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Saturday so road crews can put in place a traffic lane switch.
The state Department of Transportation is widening this 6-mile stretch between Interstate 80 in Solano County and Highway 29 in Napa County to four lanes. To prepare for the work needed over the next few weeks, workers are doing a major lane reconfiguration in the Solano County section. That requires the night closure to move safety barriers and restripe lanes, a Caltrans press release said.
During the closure, motorists can travel between I-80 and Highway 29 by using Highway 37 in Vallejo, Caltrans advises.
When Highway 12 reopens Saturday morning, eastbound drivers will be in the righthand lane of the two-lane eastbound direction and westbound drivers in the righthand lane of the two-lane westbound direction. Workers will be in the lefthand lanes working on the median barrier.
This new configuration is to be in place until the Highway 12 widening project nears completion, the Caltrans press release said. The widening project is to be done in September. Working with Caltrans on the project are the Solano Transportation Authority and the Napa County Transportation and Planning Agency.
