FAIRFIELD — Improvements to Highway 12 west of Rio Vista could begin by year’s end.
The California Transportation Commission on Tuesday gave the state Department of Transportation the power to start condemnation proceedings against a landowner to get right of way.
The project calls for adding left-turn lanes at Currie, McCloskey and Azevedo roads. It also calls for widening the shoulders from Azevedo Road to Summerset Road, a distance of about a mile.
Landowner Robert Cattey wants a left-turn lane into his industrial park for safety reasons, a position supported by Rio Vista. That is not part of the upcoming project.
“We asked Caltrans to continue to work with the county, city, us and the property owner,” Solano Transportation Authority Executive Director Daryl Halls said Wednesday.
