FAIRFIELD — A pickup and a street sweeper collided on Highway 12 in Jameson Canyon near Red Top Road during morning rush hour on Wednesday, tying up traffic.
The incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. Cordelia Fire Protection District Engineer Jason Reeves said a sweeper tried to turn left off of Red Top Road onto westbound Highway 12. It was hit by a pickup traveling on eastbound Highway 12.
The driver and passenger in the pickup got transported to a local hospital. Both were conscious and talking, Reeves said. The front of the pickup got caved in from the impact.
Meanwhile, the pickup was sitting in the middle of the highway and emergency crews were present. This prompted the California Highway Patrol to issue a traffic alert at 7:39 a.m. for eastbound Highway 12. Traffic reportedly backed up through Jameson Canyon to Highway 29 in Napa County.
All lanes were open by 8:30 a.m. and the California Highway Patrol canceled the traffic alert.
