DIXON — Supporters of the annual wreath-laying at thousands of veterans graves at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery are again getting ready, with the goal of buying 12,000 wreaths for the remembrance ceremony.
The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. Dec. 14 at the national cemetery, 5810 Midway Road near Dixon.
The Wreath Project has been adorning veterans’ graves with wreaths since 2006, when they bought and placed 300 wreaths. The Wreath Project has since been able to get enough wreaths to make the Solano County site one of the few veterans cemeteries to be able to put a wreath on every grave.
There have been a number of fundraisers to defray the $8-per-wreath cost, with the next one slated Nov. 10. That is a bike run fundraiser in Dixon, with registration at 8 a.m. and the ride at 9 a.m. There is a donation per rider, which buys two wreaths and a barbecue lunch. Participants can register at the Buckhorn Bar & Grill at 830 N. Adams St. in Dixon.
