FAIRFIELD — Rep. John Garamendi joined more than 125 of his colleagues in signing a petition to compel Republican leadership in the House of Representatives to allow a vote on comprehensive immigration reform, the congressman said Wednesday.
The House comprehensive immigration reform bill is very similar to what passed the Senate with a bipartisan 68-32 vote and already has 200 co-sponsors, including three Republicans, he said.
Garamendi, D- Walnut Grove, who represents the 3rd Congressional District that includes Solano County, said he is convinced a comfortable bipartisan majority exists in the House to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill but that the Republican leadership has refused to allow a vote.
“Our current immigration system is broken. It’s time to fix it,” Garamendi said in a press release.
