BENICIA — A 29-year-old Vallejo man was killed early Saturday morning in a crash on westbound Interstate 780 that sent the three passengers in his car to the hospital for treatment, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Eric Sopang, 29, was driving west on I-780 at about 12:38 a.m. in a 2012 Toyota Camry when he drifted off the road, hit a guard rail, went up an embankment, came back down across the highway and came to rest on the road after hitting the center divider. Sopang’s car was then struck by a 2003 Kia Rio whose driver was unable to stop in time, according to CHP.

Sopang was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash closed the westbound lanes of I-780 until 3:14 a.m.
