FAIRFIELD — Solano County wants to honor local centenarians.
The Board of Supervisors will have a Centenarian Day reception at 1 p.m. Sept. 23 at the county Government Center, 675 Texas St., Fairfield. As a first step, it is putting out a call for people who are 100 years old or older.
People who know a centenarian can contact Evelyn Glenn at [email protected] or 784-8269. Names are requested even if the centenarian is not able to attend the ceremony.
“We understand that not every centenarian wants to participate in the gala event, but we want to capture their stories and acknowledge how they’ve touched our community,” said Rochelle Sherlock, coordinator for the Senior Coalition, in a press release.
Solano County has honored 88 centenarians at ceremonies over the past seven years.
“Centenarians hold the keys to longevity and quality of life,” Supervisor John Vasquez said in a press release. “As beacons of light in our community, they are living examples of how to age with dignity and grace, and their contributions are worthy of celebration.”
