County clinic offers dental care for low-income children
FAIRFIELD — Solano County Public Health Dental Clinic is hosting free dental exams and other services for low-income children Feb. 11.
The Give Kids A Smile event, which got its start in 2003, will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Solano County Public Health Dental Clinic, 2101 Courage Drive in Fairfield. Walk-ins are welcome.
Provided are fluoride varnish and sealant applications, toothbrush kits, pediatric check-ups and eye exams to children 1 to 18. The county clinic is partnering with the Napa-Solano Dental Society, First 5 Solano and Jelly Belly.

Instead of lazily relying on the use of the word “free,” why don’t you journalists give a thumbnail breakdown of where the funds are coming from?
Nothing is free.
@Tyler: You are correct: Nothing is free. In this case, I think it’s clear that the clinic is free to those who qualify to receive the dental services offered by the county. As with any county service, funding is largely (one could almost say exclusively) derived from tax dollars and fees. Those tax dollars and fees also support the pay and benefits for government workers. That’s how government operates. I think it’s worth pointing out that there’s a professional association and a private company helping with this particular program.
