CHP: Woman dies in Highway 37 rollover crash

FAIRFIELD — A single-car rollover crash Wednesday on Highway 37 in Vallejo killed a woman after she was ejected from the vehicle.

The California Highway Patrol received reports at 1:39 p.m. of an injury crash on westbound Highway 37 in the area of Mare Island, Officer William Gerstmar said.

CHP responded to the scene and found a woman had been ejected from a two-door Infinity coupe, he said. It appeared that she was not wearing a seatbelt.

The 28-year-old woman from Novato was declared dead at the scene, Gerstmar said.

CHP reported that the crash was just west of Wilson Avenue at the bridge. Early reports indicated that the car could have rolled several times and landed on its wheels, according to the CHP website.

A regional traffic alert announced that all westbound lanes were blocked at 1:55 p.m., with traffic passing through the center median. The left lane was reopened about 3 p.m. and all lanes about 30 minutes later.

Gerstmar said speed could have been a factor, but the crash was still under investigation while CHP worked with witnesses.

Wow, I heard a report the other day that "most" people don't wear their seat belts now. Why would you risk your life and take away from your family like that? Stupid.

Someone slammed on the brakes in front of her, it's why the witnesses are not cooperating, because there was no traffic, no exits, no place to turn, just someone "brake checking" a beautiful young lady.

Skeptic Scrooge, that is a shame but she did not have to die. There is too much information as to the benefits of wearing seatbelts and it is the law. We all know the dangers of traveling that road and should always be on high alert. Condolences to family and friends.
