FAIRFIELD — The California Highway Patrol will offer a free Start Smart class this week for teens and their parents.

The two-hour class begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairfield Cordelia Library at 5050 Business Center Drive. Attendance by a parent or guardian is mandatory.

During the course, officers and speakers will illustrate the critical responsibilities of driving and collision-avoidance techniques, a CHP press release said. Among the themes is the responsibility of parents to help teach their new driver and model good behavior.

For more information on the class, call Officer Chris Parker at 428-2100.
