FAIRFIELD — People planning to travel to San Francisco on the Labor Day weekend should plan their routes beforehand, given that the Bay Bridge will be closed, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The bridge is to be shut down from 8 p.m. Aug. 28 until 5 a.m. Sept. 3. Workers will take the bridge’s existing eastern span between Oakland and Treasure Island out of service and open the new bridge span to traffic, a Caltrans press release said.
Caltrans is urging travelers to choose an alternate route before they start their trip. Please go to www.511.org for information on travel options. Please go to www.baybridgeinfo.org or call 511 for traffic updates.
From Solano County, options include taking the Vallejo ferry, taking the Capitol Corridor trains to the Richmond BART station and taking the San Rafael Bridge from Interstate 80 to U.S. 101 and entering San Francisco using the Golden Gate Bridge.
