FAIRFIELD — Experience dozens of museums for free or reduced rates during Sacramento’s annual Museum Day.
This year the day is Feb. 1 and involves 30 locations celebrating the day’s 16th anniversary showcasing what Sacramento has to offer when it comes to the arts, history, science and wildlife. All are free, except for the Sacramento Zoo and Fairytale Town, which are half-price.
Many of the museums are within walking distance of each other allow the possibility to visit several venues during the day, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Public transportation is also an option between one venue and another.
Some destinations are also offering special activities during the day, such as the “open cockpit” at the Aerospace Museum. Weather permitting, most of the aircraft will be open for viewing. There will also be a children’s art contest and on-site exhibitors such as the Tuskegee Airmen.
“We are very excited to continue this popular annual tradition and we are proud to welcome two new museums to the event this year,” said Kristina Swanson, Sacramento Association of Museums chairwoman.
The two new additions are the California Statewide Museum Collections Center and the Center for Sacramento History.
