RIO VISTA — City officials hope to start repairs soon on the floors of the Rio Vista Senior Center.
The group Rio Vista Citizens for Seniors partnered with Rebuilding Together Solano and the Roofers and Waterproofers Union Local 81 in 2011 to rehabilitate the deteriorating center.
Rebuilding Together Solano renovates homes and community facilities in Solano County. The organization agreed to provide the labor required for repairs if the seniors organization could raise between $10,000 and $15,000 for the project by July 31, 2011.
The money was raised and a completion date was set for Oct. 29, 2011, but the project stalled.
Laborers from the Roofers and Waterproofers Union Local 81 were scheduled to waterproof and make other necessary repairs to the exterior last summer and the consulting company Dillon and Murphy replaced the front ramp, steps and porch in August.
Public Works Director David Melilli said now the city is just waiting to hear back from the flooring contractor on what he plans to do with installation of new flooring and the removal of the old linoleum flooring. The damaged ceiling tiles will also have to be replaced.
The age of the flooring was of special concern, Boulware said, and they had to take care in correctly removing the existing flooring.
Once the flooring contractor provides a time schedule to start work, the city can have the ceiling tiles and linoleum removed ahead of the flooring contractor’s schedule.
