RIO VISTA — City Council members continued the search for city manager during a special Monday meeting where five candidates were interviewed.
Mayor Norman Richardson said late Monday that no decision was made during the meeting, but council members “narrowed it down.”
Richardson said the next time the council would discuss candidates would be Feb. 7, where he said hopefully a permanent city manager would be named after a closed-session meeting.
The council is looking for a new full-time city manager to replace Hector De La Rosa, who left after the council declined to renew his contract in April 2012. Roger Wong filled the position as interim city manager until he left in July.
Current interim city manager is Joseph Tanner, who cannot work past Friday because the California Public Employees’ Retirement System restricts his employment to 960 hours per fiscal year.
The council in July 2012 had two finalists picked, Regan Candelario and Robert Gorson Jr. Candelario became city manager for Fortuna before Rio Vista made a decision. Gorson was passed up for the position, so Rio Vista kept searching.
Tanner’s son, Joseph Tanner Jr,. will fill in as the interim city manager after Friday. Tanner has agreed to help the city on a pro-bono basis until the new city manager is found.
