Rio Vista agrees to file for joint environmental grant
RIO VISTA — A nod from the City Council gave city staff the ability to follow through with a joint application for grant funds to create a Climate Action Plan.
The state Sustainable Communities Planning Grant and Incentives Program is available under Proposition 84, the Safe Drinking Water, Water Quality and Supply, Flood Control, River and Coastal Bond Act of 2006.
In a beginning effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions down to 1990 levels by 2020, cities are required to create a plan that includes information such as emissions projections for 2020 and 2035, development and evaluation of cost-effectiveness of preliminary greenhouse gas reduction strategies, recommended gas reduction targets and plans for community workshops.
Rio Vista is one of four cities in Solano County that still need to create the plan. Benicia, Vallejo and Vacaville have already created plans.
