RIO VISTA — A three-alarm vegetation fire Friday afternoon burned about 50 acres on Sherman Island.
The fire was reported about 2 p.m. and under control about 6:10 p.m. Firefighters from Rio Vista, Suisun City, Fairfield, Travis Air Force Base, Suisun Fire Protection District and the Montezuma Fire Protection District battled the blaze.
Firefighters dealt with 4-foot to 6-foot brush, said Dan Schindler, assistant fire chief of the Montezuma Fire Protection District. They quickly establish fire lines to help limit the progress of the fire. One home was threatened was not damage.
The cause of the fire was most likely a control burn that got out of control, Schindler said. The area was still smoking well into the evening.
Sherman Island is located across the Sacramento River from Rio Vista, in neighboring Sacramento County.
