RIO VISTA — There will be no City Council meeting Oct. 15.
Mayor Norman Richardson said Monday that staff indicated it had nothing to put on the agenda for that week.
Vice Mayor Constance Boulware at the Oct. 1 regularly scheduled council meeting questioned Richardson as to why there was no meeting. At that time, Richardson spoke of the fact that the state controller, John Chiang, who “dinged” Rio Vista with regard to alleged misuse of a portion of an $891,700 Community Development Block Grant, would be giving a speech at The Nines Restaurant in Trilogy that same evening.
Not having a meeting would give council members the opportunity to attend. Boulware disagreed with the effectiveness of attending the Chiang event.
“Like I said at the (council) meeting, I’m not sure what could be accomplished by the City Council going there,” she said. “There seems to be some indication that if (we were) there, that might help us (with) some of the things he’s come down on us. I don’t get that connection.”
Chiang’s visit is sponsored by the Rio Vista Democratic Club. It will be a buffet-style dinner, which begins at 5 p.m. Chiang is the featured speaker. Reservations and tickets are required. To RSVP, call 374-6650.
The Dec. 3 meeting is also canceled because staff will not have time to prepare reports given it follows the Thanksgiving holiday, Richardson said.
