ROCKVILLE — Brains and the fears of the unsuspecting tourists were on the menu Saturday night, as the Zombie Sanctuary opened in Building 1100 on the Solano Community College Campus.
Put on by the college’s Welding Society Club, the Zombie Sanctuary offers a glimpse at the club’s zombies in a controlled setting before things get crazy for those taking the tour.
Dozens of students with ashen faces and blood-and-gore makeup menaced and terrorized those who passed through the door as blasting electronic music set the mood.
The first group to go through was treated to the initial full run of the sanctuary’s attractions.
“I thought it was fun, it was really fast-paced, I wasn’t that scared,” said Chris Mears, 29. “I thought they did a god job with the decorations and stuff.”
Jay Galter, 13, was all fired up after the group’s run through the sanctuary, and a little out of breath after running for his life.
“It was fun, it was scary at the same time, it was really interesting,” Galter said. “The beginning really threw me off.”
For Lurandon Howery, 13, it was a good time, and a humorous experience.
“It was fun, you have some laughs near the end. It’s amazing,” he said.
James Kistler, 18, trekked through the whole adventure stone-faced.
“On my scare scale, it’s a 1. I don’t get scared, I’m sorry,” he said. “I noticed we were walking at a slow pace. It was worth (the price).”
The Zombie Sanctuary is scheduled to frighten visitors again Sunday and Halloween night, Thursday, from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. both nights.
