FAIRFIELD — The Yippie Foundation’s Yippie Yogurt job training program is in need of volunteers.
Experience in human relations, California law, public relations, marketing and advertising, community outreach and volunteer coordinating are needed for six board of directors positions.
The board meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. the first Monday of the month at the Yippie Yogurt Training Center, 1955 W. Texas St., No. 4.
Yippie is an acronym for Youth Initiating Professional Preparedness In Employment.
Those willing to lend their expertise in career development classes in areas of job readiness skills should contact Susan Provencal at YippieYogurt@gmail.com.
Mentors are needed to meet weekly for six months with their Yippie youth to focus on their educational and vocational goals. No previous mentor experience is required.
The Yippie Foundation provides training, curriculum and ongoing support. Mentors will need to be checked through Live Scan. The next mentoring cycle begins in January.
All youth in the Yippie job training program are low-income with some are homeless and at poverty levels. Volunteers provide a hot, nutritional dinner each week. To sponsor a dinner this fall, please contact Frani Dimond at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Additional volunteers are needed for shop management, handyman maintenance, scrapbooking, data entry, administrative activities and more. Students needing community service hours are invited to participate with sign-waving and passing out coupons.
Volunteer applications can be downloaded at www.YippieFoundation.org or picked up at the Yippie Yogurt shop on West Texas Street.
