FAIRFIELD — The Tater Tots preschool hosted a trike-a-thon Friday to help raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. It was a big success.
The race is part of a weeklong curriculum that helps teach children about riding safety.
“We have talked a lot about health issues and bike safety,” said Chelsea Alvarez, director of preschool. “It has been an opportunity to talk about kids who are not as healthy as they should be and to talk about healthy living.”
Children ask friends and family members to sponsor them for the trike-a-thon. The money is donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital to help with research for sick children.
Last year’s event raised $2,500.
“It went way above what my goal last year, which was $1,500,” Alvarez said. “We hope that this year we will raise $2,500 again.”
The preschool program has grown from last year. Parents and volunteers helped set up the course, fill balloons and get the bikes ready for use. The children won prizes based on how much money they raised.
People have until May 7 to donate to for this fundraiser. To do so, contact Alvarez at 422-3414 or www.tatertots.preschool.com.
