FAIRFIELD — The Solano Explorer Post took second place in the statewide Explorer Competition this month at the California Highway Patrol Academy in West Sacramento.
The competition brought 37 Explorer Posts together from around the state. Out of those, 17 were from allied agencies and 20 from the California Highway Patrol.
Participants were rated on their performance in a variety of police scenarios that included felony and traffic enforcement stops, active shooter, building searches, court testimony, medical emergency response, domestic violence, driving under the influence and suspicious person. They also competed for physical fitness and were scored on a written exam.
“I am so proud of our Explorers,” Capt. Sam Dickson of the Solano Area said in a press release. “They were the lead CHP team and second place overall. They have worked very hard and put in many hours to train for this competition.”
The Solano CHP Explorer post received rankings in a total of seven of the scenarios, according to the press release. The competition took place May 2-4.
Solano County participants included Mark Barnes, Cody Berger, Sebastian Borges, Colby Campbell, Jason Draper, Reuben Duran, Kevin Estrada, Kaci Griess, Justin Hagler, Hailey Juchniewicz, Katelyn Martell, Matthew Mitchell, Klayton Phillips, Ari Randle, Michael Smith, Jayson Sponsler, Quentin Strickland and Helen Woods.
