FAIRFIELD — Some heart attacks are sudden and intense. Others start slowly, with mild symptoms.
Here are some signs, from the American Heart Association website, that can mean a heart attack is happening:
The most common symptom in men and women is chest pain. Women are more likely to experience some of the other symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting and back or jaw pain.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that about 715,000 Americans have a heart attack every year. For the vast majority – 525,000 – it’s the first one. About 190,000 people have already had one.
