FAIRFIELD — Those traveling Saturday between Fairfield and the Napa area on Highway 12 through Jameson Canyon will pass along a temporary roadway.
Traffic in both directions was shut down from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday to switch traffic from the existing roadway to the temporary lanes.
The work is part of the ongoing Highway 12 Jameson Canyon widening project in Solano and Napa counties. The roadway switch occurred in Napa County and required the movement of safety barriers and restriping of traffic lanes, according to a release from the state Department of Transportation.
Motorists are advised to watch for changes in the roadway near Highway 12 and Lynch Road and Highway 12 and Kelly Road. Additional message signs will alert motorists.
The switch will allow crews to continue roadway construction. The entire six-mile widening project – from two to four lanes – is scheduled to be completed in mid- to late 2014, according to the release.
All work is dependent on favorable weather conditions.
