FAIRFIELD — Police on Friday released the name of a woman found dead April 10 in a canal off North Texas Street.

The woman was identified as Delicia Wilkerson-Smith, a 41-year-old Fairfield resident.

Wilkerson-Smith was identified after assistance from the Solano County Fingerprint Analysis Unit and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Her name was initially withheld pending family notification.

Fairfield Police responded April 10 to canal, which is U.S. government property, and found Wilkerson-Smith’s body in the water.

Her cause of death has not been determined and the case continues to be an ongoing investigation, police said.

A Monterey newspaper listed Wilkerson-Smith as arrested in Carmel in 2009 after police said they found her in possession of a methamphetamine pipe. Wilkerson-Smith, who police had said provided a false name, was found to have two outstanding misdemeanor warrants, according to the newspaper.
