By From page A4 | January 09, 2014

FAIRFIELD — For children who have always wanted to build a Pinewood Derby car, now is their chance.

Lowe’s Home Improvement store at 3400 N. Texas St. will host a Build-a-Car workshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 8 for local first- through fifth-grade boys and girls.

The workshop is in advance of the fifth annual Chief Solano District Pinewood Derby, which will be from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at Lowe’s.

The first 10 families to take part in the workshop will get a free build-a-car kit. Others can purchase the kit at the workshop.

On the day of the derby, local Cub Scouts and the youths who participated in the workshop will compete to see whose car is the fastest on a 30-foot race track. The official weigh-in and dimensional check will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Boys who sign up for the Cub Scouts and race their car will be eligible to win free or discounted admission to the annual Cub Scout Day Camp at Rush Ranch.
