FAIRFIELD — Police were searching for suspects Friday night after what appeared to be an assault on the 1400 block of Phoenix Drive.
“We got a report of someone beat up, and we found a black male adult unconscious behind one of the buildings,” said Fairfield Police Sgt. Franco Cesar.
The victim was airlifted to an unknown trauma center, Cesar said, adding that police didn’t know how badly the man was injured.
“We’re not sure if he is a gang member,” Cesar said. “We have no witnesses and he had no identification.”
In the early stages of the investigation, officers were scouring the apartment complexes in the area for evidence or suspects.
Cesar said police were detaining one individual, but were not sure if he was a suspect.
“We’ll gather all the evidence we can,” Cesar said.
When police arrived, there were about 10-15 people in the area where the victim was found.
“When the cops came they ran,” Cesar said.
