Pact for Travis base lobbying goes before Fairfield council

FAIRFIELD — A proposal for the city to pay $25,000 to Madison Government Affairs as Fairfield’s share of a contract for legislative advocacy on behalf of Travis Air Force Base goes before the City Council when it meets Tuesday.

Nine agencies, including Fairfield, are in the Travis Community Consortium that administers the contract involving the retention and expansion of missions for Travis Air Force Base. The total yearly cost of the contract is $65,000. Vacaville, Solano County, Solano Community College and Dixon are among other members.

Fairfield contributed $22,000 last year and the consortium is asking for an additional $3,000 in 2014.

The consortium and Madison have successfully lobbied for Travis over the past nine years in projects that include securing $22 million for the 144-room dormitory at the Air Force base, according to a city staff report.

Last year was particularly unpredictable because of Department of Defense cost-saving measures that include possible retirement the entire KC-10 fleet, the city said. Travis is home to about half of such aircraft in the Air Force.

The proposed agreement with Madison includes the statement that, “The Air Force ‘expected proposal’ on the elimination of the KC-10 aircraft fleet is a vivid reminder of how delicate the current force and basing structure are, given the reality of sequestration and other budget cuts.”

“Protection of the base from potentially harmful moves or actions will require a united front in Solano County, the state of California and in Washington, D.C., especially with the unpredictable changes coming from Capitol Hill and the executive branch,” the pact notes in part.

City council members meet at 6 p.m. in the chambers at 1000 Webster St.

This is truly laughable. I like watching your failed leaders squirm and posture as their situation gets worse. The other States are going to eat you alive like sharks.

if im right this criminal activity should be looked into...the repacutions can be more extreme then the actual crime. less victims are prevented if you pay attention the lies and the people who bring them up.
