FAIRFIELD — An off-duty California Highway Patrol officer was killed Friday while riding his motorcycle on Highway 12 in Solano County.
CHP officials received reports at 5:40 p.m. of a fatal accident on Jameson Canyon Road.
Officer Chris Parker said a truck traveling eastbound on Highway 12 was attempting to turn left onto a residential road. The truck driver saw a motorcycle driving in the westbound lanes toward him as he was turning left and attempted to speed up. The motorcycle driver clipped the right rear of the truck and was thrown from the vehicle. As the motorcyclist and his bike slid down the road, a Honda CRV struck and killed him.
The motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene and was later identified as an off-duty CHP officer. Officials are withholding his name.
Parker said this is first fatal accident involving a CHP officer since he joined Solano County CHP in 1999.
Jameson Canyon Road will be closed in both directions until Saturday morning for further investigation.
