FAIRFIELD — A bunco fundraising event hosted by the United Methodist Women will take place June 28 to benefit local nonprofit groups.

The event will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Community United Methodist Church,1875 Fairfield Ave. It will include bunco, prizes and a dinner. Proceeds will go to the Girl Scouts’ Got Choices program at juvenile hall, the Heather House homeless shelter and LIFT 3 domestic violence shelter. Ages 12 and older are welcome.

Bunco is a dice game that has its roots in 18th century England. Its play during Prohibition in the 1920s gave rise to the term “bunco squads” to describe law enforcement groups who raided speakeasies and other gambling dens. The game saw a rebirth as a family game in the late 20th century and early this century.

For tickets, call the church at 426-2944 stop by the church offices.
