Mayor to honor Fairfield’s volunteers

FAIRFIELD — Mayor Harry Price will honor 15 volunteers for their long services to the city at an appreciation luncheon Wednesday at the Fairfield Center for Creative Arts on Texas Street.

Elmo Carpio will be recognized for 20 years of service to the Fairfield Police Department, the Cortright Family will be honored for 10 years of service to the Sister City Program, and Mike and Eleanor Pechner will be recognized for more than 20 years volunteering at Rockville Hills Park.

Macro Plastics of Fairfield is partially sponsoring the event.

Karen Rees coordinates the city’s volunteer services, which is 23 years old. A total of 578 volunteers have contributed more than 37,760 hours in roles that include park ambassadors, coaches and police volunteers.
