FAIRFIELD — A man who was struck by a vehicle Saturday in Fairfield died early Sunday.

George Watson, 55, of Fairfield, was pronounced dead around 6:30 a.m. Sunday after being hit while crossing the road on the 1800 block of N. Texas St.

Watson was hit just before 6 p.m. as he entered the street. He was not in the crosswalk when he was hit by a Ford Ranger heading northbound, said Sgt. Matt Bloesch.

The driver remained at the scene and talked to police. Bloesch said the driver was not speeding and not under the influence.

Bloesch described Watson as a local transient who had multiple contacts with police.
