FAIRFIELD — With the smell of fresh firs wafting through the parking lot, staff at Lamb’s Christmas Trees were helping loyal customers get ready for the holidays.
“We have been coming for at least 10 years,” said Fairfield resident Julia Glenn as workers carried the bagged noble fir to the waiting pickup truck. “(They have) great quality trees, great customer service,” she said.
Julia Glenn and her husband Gary bought their usual flocked fir, which has a frosted look and “sprinkles” to make it shine. She said she appreciates how she can watch staff apply the flocked spray to her liking.
“Because it’s white, it really shows the ornaments, each and every one of them,” said Julia Glenn, who will decorate the tree, as always, with her children’s handcrafted ornaments. ”The tradition is to come to Lamb’s,” she said.
Located on Auto Mall Parkway near a giant inflatable snowman, Lamb’s Christmas Trees sells noble fir, grand fir, Douglas fir and Nordman fir trees, said Tom Wessel, of Bonanza, Ore.
Founded by the late Jay Lamb, the business has been selling Christmas trees in Fairfield for 25 years.
“My brother-in-law got us all started down here,” said Wessel. “He started in Vacaville about 30 years ago.”
Wessel’s sister, Pam Lamb, continues to grow the Christmas trees at a farm in Sublimity, Ore. The loss of her husband, who died in a plane crash six years ago, is a tender subject.
“We do it in his memory and in his honor,” she said.
Thanks to returning patrons, Lamb’s Christmas Trees manages to thrive.
“Our business continues to carry on because of the loyal customers we have,” she said.
Lamb’s Christmas Trees is open through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
