FAIRFIELD — Firefighters made quick work Thursday of a vehicle fire that destroyed a parked pickup truck.

The fire started shortly before 9 a.m. in the driveway of a home on the 500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, at the corner of Pennsylvania and Crowley Lane. The fire was first noticed by passers-by, who flagged down a police officer who was patrolling nearby.

By that time, flames had engulfed the passenger compartment of the lifted GMC Sierra and were spreading to the exterior. A plume of black smoke rose from the truck and over the neighborhood.

The officer notified Fairfield firefighters, and then checked at the back and front of the home to see if anyone was there. No one responded.

Firefighters arrived shortly thereafter and had the fire out in about two minutes.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known. No injuries were reported.
