Fire Department seeks CERT academy applicants

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield Fire Department is accepting applications for the next Community Emergency Response Team academy.

Those who take part in the academy receive training to help themselves and others in the event of an emergency or natural disaster.

Program participants learn about disaster preparedness. The training is designed to prepare them in specific areas of disaster response that include fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medial operations.

The goal of the program is to have residents across the community who are prepared to help others in their workplaces or neighborhoods in the event of an emergency of natural disaster.

Program participants must be at least 18, live or work within the city, must have no misdemeanor convictions within the past year, and must have no felony convictions.

Glen Faison joined the Daily Republic as managing editor in September 2009. He previously worked as a reporter and editor for daily and weekly newspapers in the San Joaquin Valley for 20-plus years.
