FAIRFIELD — Mayor Harry Price and the city of Fairfield join the list of communities in the U.S. declaring Nov. 1 as Extra Mile Day to encourage volunteerism.
“They’re a lot of great examples in Fairfield,” Price said of the difference volunteers make.
Examples include Mission Solano, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the Police Athletic League, The Leaven tutoring project and the Solano County Library Foundation, he said.
Extra Mile Day began in 2009 with 23 cities, founder Shawn Anderson said. Now more than 400 are involved.
“It’s easy to complain about everything we see going on around us,” he said. “The ‘go the extra mile’ message, though, gives people an alternative to just throwing their arms in the air and saying, ‘I give up.’ ”
