FAIRFIELD — The Armijo High School Super Band and the Fairfield High School Scarlet Brigade band kept busy during the holiday season.

The 120 students of the Fairfield High School band strutted their stuff at the Fiesta Bowl Parade and band championship in Phoenix, Ariz., under cool, but comfortable weather, according to Band Director Brian Swetland. The Fiesta Bowl will be held Thursday, but the parade was Saturday.

The Fairfield band won first place in the parade auxiliary competition category and finished third in the parade marching competition category in Phoenix, according to Swetland.

“We are very thankful to for the boosters to provide the funding for this trip. We really appreciate their generosity,” Swetland said.

Meanwhile, Armijo’s Super Band and its 52 students traveled to San Diego to march and compete in the Big Balloon Parade in that city’s downtown on Dec. 27 before the 2012 Holiday Bowl. It was at least the second time that the band has participated in the parade.

The Super Band won best parade band, best marching and best music. It went onto perform in the Holiday Bowl halftime show, with more than 2,000 band members and in front of 55,000 spectators.
