FAIRFIELD — Food, wine and prizes lured hundreds to the Fairfield Community Center on Saturday as the Rotary Club of Cordelia hosted its Spring Extravaganza.

“The community donates the goods, we have a party and then we donate the proceeds back to the community,” said Rotary of Cordelia President George Paz.

Dozens of local restaurants and Suisun Valley wineries catered to an estimated 350 patrons who bid on a room full of raffle prizes at the 24th annual event.

Fairfield resident Mary Ann Moody, whose husband is a member of the Fairfield-Suisun Twilight Rotary Club, walked away with prizes that included gift certificates and a gift basket.

“This is my first time here,” she said. “And I love grazing – the food’s great . . .”

The local Rotary Club supports Court Appointed Special Advocates of Solano County, Child Haven and the NorthBay Healthcare Newborn Intensive Care Unit, Paz said. He estimated they would raise $35,000 at Saturday’s fundraiser.

“Turnout was about what we did last year,” he said. “We would certainly like to have more.”

Cathy Zimmerman and her daughter Christine Tooby felt the need to give back. Tooby said the club has supported her father’s Zimmerman Patient Care Fund, which provides house calls to the uninsured, through the Sutter Solano Charitable Foundation.

“Cordelia Rotary always makes more than generous donations,” Tooby said. “We’ve always been supportive of Rotary . . . they just do great work for our local community.”
