NAPA — California Highway Patrol officers arrested an 18-year-old Fairfield man who crashed his vehicle after fleeing a traffic stop in Napa.
A pair of CHP officers were monitoring traffic on Highway 12 east of Mountain Avenue just before 3 a.m. Sunday when they attempted to stop a 2002 Dodge Intrepid for a speed violation, according to a press release.
The vehicle fled on eastbound Highway 12, but the driver lost control and collided with a light pole and traffic control device, according to CHP. After the car came to rest, it caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames.
Carlos Gonzalez, who sustained minor injuries in the crash, got out of the vehicle and was taken into custody, according to CHP. He said he fled because he was unlicensed.
