Caltrans makes I-80 lane change

FAIRFIELD — Westbound Interstate 80 near the Interstates 80 and 680 interchange will be four lanes instead of five lanes for the next year.

The state Department of Transportation made the change Sunday night between the Interstate 680 connector and Green Valley Road overcrossing. The configuration will allow crews to work behind concrete safety barriers on the first phase of the Interstates 80 and 680 interchange project.

This first phase involves building a replacement Green Valley Road overcrossing and improving the westbound I-80 exit lanes onto Highway 12 through Jameson Canyon.

The temporary I-80 lane configuration will be in place until the first phase of the project gets completed in fall 2015. Motorists should expect delays, allow extra travel time and watch for crews at work, a Caltrans press release said.

They need to have more of a notice that the carpool lane ends abruptly. It was kind of scary going through that area this morning. I wonder if it is going to be backed up there every morning?

It already gets backed up before the 680 exit and now I'm sure this WILL cause more problems. That whole WB 80 from the Hwy 12 overpass to Hwy 12 to Napa is dangerous with the slow trucks coming out of the scales and the suisun valley rd exit, then 680, then Hwy 12/jameson canyon rd. Just DANGEROUS I tell ya.
