FAIRFIELD — The author of “The Anatomy Coloring Book” will sign copies of the latex edition of the book later this month in Fairfield.

The book is written by Dr. Lawrence M. Elson of Napa and was first published more than 35 years ago.

Elson is a clinical and forensic human anatomist who has taught at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, the University of California Medical School at San Francisco, and the City College of San Francisco. Before he became an anatomist, Elson was a pilot in the U.S. Navy. He culminated a 20-year career as commanding officer of a reserve antisubmarine helicopter squadron.

“The Anatomy Coloring Book,” recently released in its fourth edition, features user-friendly two-page spreads with enlarged art, clearer, more concise text descriptions and new boldface headings that make this coloring book accessible to a wider range of learners, according to a press release announcing the event.

Elson will also answer questions about the book.

The book-signing event is scheduled from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 1600 Gateway Blvd., in the Gateway Courtyard shopping center in Fairfield.
