Amtrak train kills pedestrian

FAIRFIELD — An Amtrak train struck and killed a pedestrian at around 9 a.m. Sunday along the railroad tracks between East Tabor and Railroad avenues.

Union Pacific Railroad contacted the Fairfield Police Department around 9:47 a.m. to report the incident. An officer arrived in about 1 minute. A male was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Lt. Randy Fenn.

Police notified the Union Pacific Railroad Police Department, which took over the investigation.

Union Pacific Railroad corporate relations and media director Aaron Hunt said the adult male victim had trespassed on the tracks.
