FAIRFIELD — Two separate accidents in the same vicinity caused a traffic backup on westbound Interstate 80 Thursday that reportedly stretched from the Interstate 680 offramp to North Texas Street.
Both accidents happened on westbound Interstate 80 near the Interstate 680 offramp, just before 7 a.m. One involved two cars. The other involved five vehicles. Minor injuries were reported.
Two lanes were blocked as a result of the five-vehicle crash. A regional traffic alert was issued shortly after 7 a.m. and canceled after 8 a.m.
Shortly after that accident was cleared, there was a two-car crash on westbound Highway 12 and Abernathy Road at about 8:30 a.m. Early reports said a car had gone off the embankment. One car was by the center divider, the other on the right hand side of the road. It was quickly cleared.
Minor injuries were reported.
Both accidents were being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
