FAIRFIELD — He’s only 11, but has seen the limelight.
Professional dancer Zach Belandres will get to showcase his skills at Nickelodeon’s “Kids’ Choice Awards,” which airs live on Saturday.
The Fairfield resident has been on television before. He performed on “Dancing With the Stars” last year and at the “Kids’ Choice Awards” in 2012.
Nevertheless, his father, Chris Belandres, said Zach was pleased to get the gig.
“He’s been happy, he was excited,” Chris Belandres said.
Zach Belandres, who attends Nelda Mundy Elementary School, auditioned for the TV show last week in Los Angeles. Rehearsals started Sunday and continued Wednesday at the University of Southern California Galen Center. Chris Belandres said Zach auditioned with a group of about 300 and was likely the only Northern California resident out of the 10 finalists, who are mostly from Los Angeles.
The young dancer will get to join a group of other dancers for a choreographed routine that features breakdancing, Chris Belandres said.
“We’re proud and excited, and his hard work is paying off,” Chris Belandres said of his son.
