AIRFIELD — Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr., formerly of The 5th Dimension, have claimed seven Grammy Awards, earned 15 gold records and three platinum records, but they have a more amazing statistic: 44 years of marriage.
The couple will perform at Napa’s Uptown Theatre on March 22.
McCoo is 70, Davis is 75. The couple released a romantic, interactive CD, “The Many Faces of Love,” featuring love songs and other hits from the 1960s and 1970s, on their 40th wedding anniversary. The songs explore different aspects of relationships.
The interactive features are videos, interviews and rare photos.
The pair also wrote a book, “Up, Up & Away . . . How We Found Love, Faith and Marriage in the Entertainment World.” In it, they talk about how they met, their successful musical careers and their major struggles behind closed doors.
After the book was released, they began speaking at marriage seminars.
McCoo and Davis first met as lead vocalists of The 5th Dimension. The band had hits such as “Up, Up & Away,” “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In,” “Wedding Bell Blues,” “One Less Bell To Answer” and “Stoned Soul Picnic.”
After a decade with the group, McCoo and Davis chose to become a duo. They had success with the single “You Don’t Have To Be A Star (To Be In My Show).”
McCoo has done stage and screen work, including time hosting the TV show “Solid Gold,” and having a recurring role on “Days of Our Lives.”
Davis recorded a gospel album and has made several TV appearances.
The couple had their own show on CBS in the summer of 1977.
McCoo and Davis are involved in numerous charities and also share their faith testimony.
“This is the most fulfilling time in our lives,” Davis said in press materials. “Not only do we share our talents with our audiences through our music, we’re also providing them with wisdom that we’ve acquired through the years.”
